Senior Legal Counsel

WHAT YOU'LL DO As part of BCG’s global team of employment lawyers, you will continue to build the centre of employment expertise within, and provide support on employment legal matters predominantly within the ANZ region (Australia and New Zealand) as well as ad hoc support across other countries within Asia Pacific (likely South East Asia) and other regional/global projects as required. Based from our office in Sydney, you will cover the full range of employment issues including onboarding, offboarding and everything in between, investigations, disputes, regulatory issues relating to employment, global and local HR processes and approaches, mobility and immigration matters, and advisory support for various people related matters; Partner with other members of BCG’s global employment centre of expertise (CoE) on global projects, with the opportunity to lead such projects for the CoE; Coordinate closely with the HR function within ANZ to ensure a consistent approach to policies and decision-making across the global organization; Team successfully across BCG and integrate fully into BCG’s Global Legal Team to resolve or support resolution of complex HR and employment legal issues (both internally and matters where it could interface with external parties); Contribute to developing and maintaining Legal Team intellectual property, including template forms, and other materials; Work with and manage external counsel; and, Perform other duties as assigned or required. In all cases, BCG’s Senior Legal Counsel will be an exceptional lawyer, able to efficiently deliver high quality work, and will have substantial experience of advising on commercially sound, strategic, and outcome-based solutions to people issues. Provides concise and balanced advice to internal stakeholders, ability to quickly grasp the crux of a matter and deliver clear, sound and practical advice; Comfortable in taking on a collaborative advisory role, than fixed on certain outcomes; Talent for absorbing new skill sets and areas of expertise quickly and comfortably and the flexibility to deal with a diverse international set of stakeholders and advisors; The ability to quickly comprehend complex sets of international laws and regulations and interpret those laws within the context of BCG’s global policies and values; Perform successfully and produce results in a fast-paced, intellectually intense, client-oriented environment; and, Have the interpersonal skills necessary to build relationships throughout a loosely structured, highly collaborative and consensus driven organization. YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS) Australia qualified lawyer with work experience in ANZ employment law (NSW qualifications preferred), with deep strategic and operational employment law expertise. Additional employment legal experience in other countries within Asia Pacific not required but viewed favourably; 6-8+ years of total PQE experience, with at least 4+ years PQE of practicing labour and employment law as your sole remit (candidates outside of this range may be considered if you have at least 3+ years PQE of practicing as an employment lawyer; candidates with regional/commercial/general counsel experience without experience in an employment legal role will not be considered); Prior in-house counsel experience preferred within a complex international organization, preferably professional services or similar industry; Comfortable presenting to both large and small audiences; Must be fully fluent in English, with excellent grammar; Preference to those with experience servicing international stakeholders and/or those with experience working within international offices; Gravitas to influence and persuade senior/challenging stakeholders; and, Have a sense of humour, a positive outlook, ability to remain calm in stressful situations and is a good team player. You will report into the Employment group of the Legal Team, with your direct manager based out of Singapore.
